Laparoscopic Gastric Banding

Ifexcessive weight gain continues to diminish your quality of life, and non-surgical treatments have not provided relief, Laparoscopic Mini Gastric Bypass may be the next step.

What is Laparoscopic Gastric Banding

Laparoscopic gastric banding is the least invasive surgery to deal with weight loss. It is used to treat severe obesity. It is recommended for patients who have tried other weight loss methods without long-term success. You will be advised laparoscopic gastric banding if you have a Body Mass Index of over 40. It may also be advised to you if you have BMI between 35 and 40 with health conditions such as sleep apnea, high blood pressure, heart disease or type 2 diabetes.

In this procedure, you will be given general anesthesia so that no pain is felt by you. Small incisions are made in your abdomen and the surgeon will place a camera and the instruments needed to perform the surgery. A band will be placed around the upper part of the stomach to separate it from the lower part. This creates a small pouch that has a narrow opening that goes into the larger, lower part of the stomach.

There is no need of any cutting or stapling inside the belly and takes only 30 to 60 minutes. You will feel full after eating just a small quantity of food.
