Lasik or ‘Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis’ is a type of refractive surgery for the correction of myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. It is the type of surgery which reshapes the cornea to enable light entering the eye to be properly focused onto the retina for clearer vision. It is a pain-free surgery and required just 15 minutes for both the eyes in most of the cases.
It provides a long-lasting alternative to eyeglasses or contact lenses. Millions of people in India have this procedure to correct their vision. The result of this procedure can be noticed within 24 hours. There are multiple Lasik procedures like PRK, LASEK, Custom and all laser bladeless LASIK.
Lasik is the right procedure for the following patients –
In this procedure, numbing eye drops are applied to the eyes to make sure that no discomfort is caused during the procedure. Your eye will be positioned under the laser and your eyelids are kept open with the help of an instrument called a lid speculum. Before creating a flap, the surgeon uses an ink marker to mark the cornea. After the flap is created, the surgeon uses a computer to adjust the excimer laser depending on your prescription.
You will then be asked to focus on a target light for a short time while the doctor watches your eye through a microscope as the laser sends pulses of light to your cornea. This laser light painlessly reshapes the cornea. This procedure is imparted separately to each eye and takes around 5-7 minutes per eye.
