What is Sleep Disorder Treatment ?
Sleep disorders refer to changes in sleeping patterns or habits that negatively affect our health. It also hinders the ability to sleep well on a regular basis. Sleeping problems may occur due to stress, hectic schedules, and other lifestyle reasons. But when these problems begin to occur on a regular basis, it implies that there is a sleeping disorder.
The lack of sleep has a negative impact on energy, mood, concentration and overall health. You will not be able to fall asleep and feel extremely tired throughout the day. It may be due to allergies, respiratory problems, nocturia, chronic pain, stress, and anxiety. The treatment depends on the type of sleep disorder you are suffering from. - Sleep apnea – sleep apnea is a condition in which there are pauses in breathing during sleep. You wake up at night as your body takes less oxygen.
- Parasomnias – it is a type of disorder that causes abnormal movements and behaviors during sleep. It includes sleepwalking, sleeps talking, groaning, nightmares etc.
- Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) – it is an overwhelming need to move legs. This is also accompanied by a tingling sensation in the legs. They are most prevalent during night time.
- Narcolepsy – Narcolepsy is sleep attacks that occur during daytime. In this condition, you will feel extremely tired and fall asleep without warning.

Medical treatment – you may be prescribed sleeping pills, melatonin supplements, allergy medications, breathing device, or a dental guard for teeth grinding.
Cognitive-behavioral treatment – many sleep disorders are related due to a pattern of behavior and that is the reason for cognitive behavioral therapy as a treatment option. Insomnia and narcolepsy are two types of sleep disorders which are treated.
Sleep hygiene and routine – people suffering from sleep disorders are benefited by practicing good sleep hygiene and routines which assist them is sleeping. Scheduled naps and sleepwalkers have improved symptoms of sleep disorder.
